Graduation Quilt for Natalie

I have two granddaughters.  The older one Nikki is in her third year of teaching in Arlington Heights.   The younger one Natalie is graduating from Iowa State this month and starting a job in Moab, Utah, two weeks later.  It’s been amazing to watch these girls grow and develop into such unique and remarkable women. Here’s Natalie with her first (and only!) quilt she made 12 years ago.

Nikki is a total girlie girl, but Natalie is all about Nature.  Her degree is in Biology and Animal Ecology.  Last summer Nat was in Guam doing field research.

One of my fabric crush piles began to speak to me, saying that they would be perfect for Natalie.  And these fabrics are definitely right for her.  This Trip Around the World is batted with wool and hand-quilted with No. 8 Perle Cotton in an off-center spiral.  Her graduation party is this Saturday - we'll be glad to see her before she heads out west.  I wondered if we could drive out there to visit her.  Uh, it's 2,000 miles.  So that's a big fat no.  But perhaps a plane trip?  ...to be determined.
